Elwyn Canning, an expatriate from South Africa, has worked at Gallaudet University since 1983. He began work as Mathematics Instructor at the Northwest Campus, then as Application Programmer and is now Manager of Academic Systems and Programming. He has been a lecturer in Italian and French for a decade.

Elwyn enjoys learning new languages. He uses ASL, SASL, English, Afrikaans, Italian and French. He sometimes teaches Italian and French courses for the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.

DUTIES:
He, as system administrator, maintains the operation of the University's course management system, Blackboard. He manages Blackboard data integration with Bison (Peoplesoft) for course creation and user enrollment. He works with the Academic Technology groups to assess institutional needs.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
He has extensive experiences with Oracle and MS-SQL; Lotus Domino, PERL, Visual Basic, JavaScript, XML, XSL, XLST, SQL, HTML, CSS, directory authentication, and database administration; he just acquires new skills in Ingeniux CMS.
